Honors English Composition

About the course

Honors English composition is an honors seminar that endeavors to help each student become a better writer and critical thinker. The course challenged each student to analyze their relationship with literacy and forms of communication used within social groups. It highlighted the different forms of discourse and how different types of communication are powerful tools. Literacy and communication are essential aspects of everyone’s life and this course challenged students to think critically about fundamental attributes of society.

Communication is a basic skill that everyone is taught at a young age. However, as we become older the intricacies and methods of communication change. These variations change from social group to group as well as generationally. Clear communication is essential to the fabric of our society because without clear communication we aren’t able to understand one another. This course helped me explore and think critically about different forms of communication. As well as how that communication can vary drastically depending on who the information is being communicated to and whether it is a formal or informal setting. This helped me reflect on my own experiences with various forms of communication in different social groups I am a part of and my relationship with communication and literacy.
